Winter Anime 2017!

And here we are again! Another new year and a new season of anime to check out and have a lot of fun with! Since I actually find this season to be more than enjoyable so far, I’m going to be doing more than my usual four reviews. It might be a little tricky, but Elliot and I picked out a lot of fun stuff to cover and are looking forward to all of it!

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid:

This anime is everything I could have ever asked for; next to Izetta, that is. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect because the title seemed random and confusing. And then I found out the title really did convey the entire plot of this anime. It’s literally about a dragon, named Toru, who is the maid of Ms. Kobayashi. No literally, that is what this anime is. And I fully expect this anime to become one of my favorites. It’s like late night blogging/fanfiction writing became its own anime and I cannot, for even one second, ignore this. It had to be on my list, and so it shall be! Elliot and I have very high hopes for it!

Interviews with Monster Girls:

So, to be very honest, I was expecting something along the lines of Monster Musume not only because it was about monster girls, but also because it looked like another bad harem. So far, according to the first two episodes I’ve watched, I was half right. While it follows the story of high school monster girls versus adult monster girls (women???) I don’t really know if that makes this any better? I mean, it revolves around them and their biology teacher so… I’m sort of struggling with what kind of plot this is going to be. So far the teacher isn’t doing anything creepy and isn’t returning feelings (though most the men in harems never really do) but… I don’t know. I really don’t know what to expect with this anime. I feel like I’m going to hate it but another part of me already loves the little vampire so let’s just hope for the best.

Spiritpact:

What. Is. This.

What even is this anime? Judging from the first episode, I really do truly believe, from the very core of my being, that this is someone’s yoai fanfiction come to life. And unlike the dragon maid anime, I don’t think this was a good fanfiction. I sincerely feel like I’ve read this Yu Yu Hakusho fanfic before one late night that was filled with regret. And while I didn’t even understand what was going on in this first episode, which may be because everything bounced around so much, I am going to give it a chance. A chance, okay? I don’t think I’m going to like it, but the worst that can happen is I will rip into it on my cat blog so that’s not the end of the world. On the other hand, I may be giving up a piece of my soul by just watching this. It’ll be like Super Lovers all over again… I don’t think I can take that torture anymore.

Nyanko Days:

THIS IS IT BOYS! THIS IS WHAT WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! I am so hyped for this, and apparently so is Elliot. He is a cat after all, so can you really blame him? To be honest, while it is another short anime, I really do feel like it’s going to fill that void Kaju Girls left me from last season. I gotta say, this trend of short anime is really nice in its own unique way because I can spend a few moments in my day watching something a bit mindless that makes me smile. And boy oh boy to neko girls make my pearly whites gleam! In all seriousness, this looks like it’ll be adorable and I sincerely look forward to the little moments in my day where I get to see adorable cat girls on my screen.

Saga of Tanya the Evil:

I think Tanya is the reflection of the very dark version of myself. It is another war themed anime,  and while I’ve never really been a huge fan of that genre myself, I do think I will like and appreciate this anime. Not only does it seem interesting but I think Tanya is everything all women and young girls should aspire to be. She is now my self-appointed guardian… Maybe. Anywho, while I’m not really into the entire plot so far, and it did lose me at times, I do like the character and I think it’ll make for an interesting anime to review. Elliot likes the explosions anyway, so may as well watch for the entertainment of the kitty!

OneRoom:

Now this one I am super fascinated in because it isn’t like your normal anime. SMIRAL Animation is here to bring us a virtual anime experience where we get to be the protagonists ourselves! I’ve never actually watched an anime like this, but I’m very excited to watch OneRoom purely because I love otome games! Now, to be fair, I feel like the episodes are too short for what the project is trying to convey. But I might get into more as this new project goes on. I picked this one because I don’t really review otome games and this is as close as I’m going to get. So gosh darn it, I’m gonna take it!

I’m really looking forward to this season, as it looks like it’s going to be filled with mostly good anime. And while I’ve chosen to take on more anime to review this time around, I’m sure it’s going to be a fun experience so be sure to subscribe and revisit for more! As per usual, we will have a seasonal review done around the time the anime season ends so please stay tuned to check out our posts. Gifs, puns and cats galore, we will have it all on this site!

What anime are you guys watching for the winter season?

Fall Anime 2016!

It’s that time again kitty-lovers! Time for me to pick out what anime I will be watching for the season of cold morning and cornucopias amounts of homework and exams! It’s fall, and that means there will be rushed blog posts and Elliot will most definitely be getting “fluffier” (guys, Halloween candy, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner are just gonna do it for him) but fear not! We will be doing our job to provide you with the best reviews and content for the blog!

So what will the bum and I be watching this fall? tumblr_me96whp1xs1qdlkyg

izettaIzetta: The Last Witch:

Is it finally happening? Am I finally going to find a lesbian couple that doesn’t pander to a male audience via anime? Because the last time I saw that happen it was Magi Madoka and even then, I’m not so sure they ever really made it canon. I’m not entirely sure that that’s the direction this anime is going to go in, but boy howdy, I sure hope it does! Listen guys, every yuri or girl love thing I see in anime is always really young girls or its really not meant for queer women. With that in mind, I’ve always wondered if I was ever going to find a healthy, adult relationship between two women without it being fetishistic. I’m not sure if this will be that anime in terms of shipping, but regardless of the “romantic” aspect I love the story so far. Episode one really drew me in and even if the two don’t end up together the story will still be worth the watch. Needless to say, I have high hopes for this anime.

kaiju-girlsKAIJU GIRLS:

This. Is. The. Cutest. Thing. Ever. I know that this means I will have to review another very short anime, but I have no issues with this. In fact, I’ve been so busy lately that this might be a blessing in disguise. I really love the art for this, it’s so chibi and adorable and it makes me want nendos. If I don’t get nendos for this anime, I might cry. Regardless, I watched the first two episodes for this short anime series and it looks like it’s going to be a good way to relax and unwind at the end of the day. Nothing heavy or serious, in fact it’s mostly humor, but I do think that it’s going to be a great “time waster” for lack of a better term.

kiss-him-not-meKiss Him, Not Me:

I have a problem with this anime. I have a problem with this anime to the point that now me and the crew are going to be doing a podcast series discussing this issue. Right away, within the first few minutes of this anime, I just knew I was going to have an issue with everything that followed. What is this mysterious issue, you may ask? Fat. Anime. Character. Tropes. “She said whaaaat?” You heard me. And the sad thing is, when I saw the gifs from this anime I thought that it was going to be a really great, funny anime. But instead they placed the lead female in this position where her weight was a deciding factor in her attractiveness. This may not seem like a problem until you realize that none of this story would have happened if she’d remained plus-sized. I will have to dig into this much more when the season is completely finished, but for now I will leave you with a scowl and some bitterness; I am really tired of seeing this trope. It needs to stop. In the meantime, I will try my best to just watch the anime.

magical-girlMagical Girl Raising Project:

This series. I don’t know where to start with this series, if I’m being honest. For the record, the only reason that I would be even remotely harsh on this new show is because I’m a serious Magi Madoka fan. And while these two series are respectfully different, I still saw some similarities between the two shows and it made me feel slightly defensive. Like a house cat and it’s food (I mean Elliot). Magi Madoka is my sealed can of goodness and when I see the bag of kibble I kind of just turn my nose at it. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have the potential to be good though! I pushed my bias aside as much as I could because I found that I actually liked the art style and animation for this show. It looks like it will be good, so if I can relive my Madoka days vicariously through this, I will.

And that’s it for the fall season! I think it’ll definitely be a good one and I’m looking forward to watching all of these series and reviewing them for you like the piece of anime trash I am. This will definitely be a great way to procrastinate on the large amount of work I need to do to stay alive (note: this is a lie, if I stop working I die, so therefore I will not be procrastinating, but rather, working diligently at all times). Elliot and I will be dutiful to our reporting for you, the readers, as always!

Mob Psycho 100 – Review

Me to Elliot when he’s being a brat.

The world can finally be at peace now that this anime has come into your dreams and found your most inner desires. Did I love Mob Psycho 100? Let me ask you; is the sky blue? Is the world round? Is One Piece still running? The answer, my dear followers, is yes. This is a fantastic anime and I think everyone should watch it because Mob is precious and we need to protect him.

Mob Psycho 100 is about the most precious kitten of them all, Mob, who has incredible psychic abilities. On the outside he looks like a grass-nibbling bunny, but his powers reach far beyond face value. Throughout the series, we see Mob grow as a person and as a psychic with the help of his mentor, brother and the various friends we meet along the way.

PROTECT HIM!

The Good:

Firstly, even if the story wasn’t good (which it was) the characters are so perfect that I feel it couldn’t go wrong no matter what. I loved most of these characters and Elliot couldn’t stop purring every time Mob or Reigen came up on the screen. My love for Reigen knows no bounds. I want to marry that man. Said and done. He is my #1 husbando.tumblr_m9gcy6mxn61qzckow And Mob is such a sweet and innocent unicorn puff that we must ban together and preserve him in a jar. I love him. And that other kid. The blonde one.

But it wasn’t just the characters that were lively. The story itself had so much to offer out of a concept I would have never thought to have been so appealing. I really didn’t think I’d like a psychic themed anime because, despite it sounding cool in theory, I usually get let down with that genre. But Mob did it right. There was a real story there and you could see what was going to drive the plot for each episode. I wouldn’t say it was predictable, but it did give you pleasant hints as to what was going to come next. Like 2016 political scandals. Not only that, but the lessons you learned in this anime were way different than what you thought they were going to be. I felt like while I was expecting something to happen, at times it went in another direction that was actually better. Which is unlike the 2016 political scandals.

The Bad:

No, don’t save Shadow the Edgehog…

I kind of didn’t like Mob’s younger brother, but that may just be me. As much as he drove the plot in the right direction, I did get sick of his crud a couple of times. I just felt like he became more bratty than the troubled intellect they tried to make him out to be. I was watching this anime for soft, smol cinnamon buns like Mob and I ended up with Shadow the Edgehog for more of the series than I would have personally preferred.

Other than Linkin Park showing up to help me relive my middle school days, I did also feel that there were some missed opportunities. At times it felt like some of the characters didn’t really get a chance to grow. I felt like certain characters were just given things so that they could move on with the story or that perhaps their own personal growth was rapid so that season one could end on a good note. That being said, this isn’t that uncommon for anime series to do, so I wasn’t that bummed out about it. Believe me guys, I’ve seen worse (Charlotte).

I most definitely am!

A full five! This was the anime of the summer season that really deserved five Elliots! And each one, as you can see, is very satisfied. This anime really made me want to continue watching and gave me something interesting to do with my day. Usually I’m watching trash (anime) but when I watched Mob I was watching high quality trash! I loved this anime and for anyone who’s on the fence about watching it, I urge you to check it out. It really deserves all the good things in life. I’m so in love with Mob it’s crazy; he is the softest of characters. And Reigen is one fine piece of salmon, let me tell you!

How many Elliot emojis did you think Mob Psycho 100 deserved? Let me know in the comment section below!
